About Us

The National Association of Assumable Mortgage Professionals (NAAMP) was established to close the knowledge gap in assumable mortgages through education, professional training, certification, and industry collaboration.

Why NAAMP Exists

Closing the Knowledge Gap in Assumable Mortgages

For decades, assumable mortgages have remained one of the housing industry’s most overlooked and misunderstood financing opportunities. While these loans may offer eligible homebuyers an alternative to obtaining a new mortgage, awareness and understanding of how they work remain limited among consumers and real estate professionals alike.

An assumable mortgage allows a qualified buyer to take over an existing mortgage from a seller, subject to the loan’s terms, applicable requirements, and approval by the loan servicer or lender. Depending on the existing loan’s interest rate, outstanding balance, and the buyer’s financial circumstances, assuming a mortgage may present advantages worth exploring as part of the homebuying process.

However, the potential benefits and practical considerations of assumable mortgages are not always widely understood. Many consumers are unfamiliar with the concept or do not realize that certain existing mortgages may be assumable. Others may encounter inaccurate information, struggle to find professionals with relevant experience, or have difficulty understanding the process from initial discovery through closing.

The same knowledge gap affects real estate agents, mortgage professionals, and other housing industry participants. Professionals may recognize the term but lack the specialized training, resources, or transaction experience needed to confidently identify opportunities, explain eligibility requirements, coordinate the parties involved, and guide clients through the process.

The issue is not simply that assumable mortgages are underutilized. It is that the knowledge, resources, and professional guidance needed to understand them are not consistently accessible.

The National Association of Assumable Mortgage Professionals (NAAMP) was established to help address this gap by creating a centralized resource dedicated to assumable mortgage education, professional training, certification, and industry collaboration.

Our purpose is to help make assumable mortgage knowledge more accessible, professional guidance more informed, and the overall transaction experience more transparent for everyone involved.
